Hospital Visit

Round 3 of hospital visits this year for us. Michael ended up being there six days and they are still not sure what it is. At least this time it did not end in surgery. June has also coordinated her ear infections with his hospital visits. The stress resulted in the biggest cold sore I have ever had. It was really bad. When June went to visit Michael in the hospital she started licking everything in the room. We finally left when she went face down on the floor and started licking the ground. It has been an interesting year for us, but the upside is I now enjoy Eminem and Elton John's music. Who knew I would come around?

It looks like June is going to have curly hair and I have no idea how to do it. Any tips?

Nursery

June's nursery is finally coming together. In the last few months we got this zig zag chair off of Gilt, a crib, a cream dresser, and a sheep skin rug. I was a little worried about all of the cream coloring in June's room, but Michael reminded me of Rachel Zoe's nursery and I've been feeling better about it ever since. I also bought a few more toys. We used to only have one small basket full of toys, but now that June is getting older and it has been snowing so much we picked up a few more things. It's nice to have a real nursery now. Megan is due this week and she has her baby's room all set up. I remember ordering a pack n' play a week before June was due. I was definitely not as prepared as my sister.

Denny's

A few weeks ago we went on a Saturday morning Denny's run with all the cousins since Michael's aunt Didi and cousin Bev were in town for a wedding. It was a blast. June hopped around from one lap to another and loved sitting by her cousins. It's nice that we can finally leave her down with the cousins and she is fully entertained.

Haley came into town. She was our first visitor from my family. June loved having her around and wanted to be just like Haley. She loves her auntie. We got to show Haley around town and try a few new restaurants in our neighborhood.

Stock Show

We went to the stock show this week with Carrie and Christina from our ward. Apparently Denver has one of the biggest stock shows in the country. The kids were in heaven. The petting zoo had goats, sheep, ducks, a donkey, and even a llama. June ran around from animal to animal touching each one. No fear! June has been into farm animals and their noises so it was fun to hear her say "quack, quack" along with the ducks. We came home nice and smelly, but it was worth it.

Play Group

June and I love our little play group with friends from the ward. Our ward is small and there are mostly young kids. Here is June hugging Merit who was born about a week after her. I need to get June a real bracelet so she can stop wearing all her toys as bracelets!

Holidays

Our much anticipated Christmas break was a little lessrelaxing than we expected. As we were descending on the plane into San Francisco to visitMichael’s family we got texts from Rebecca saying that they though Michael’sdad may have had a heart attack and that he was being taken away on anambulance. We arrived at our hotel in San Francisco not quite sure what to think. Luckily hisdad did not have a heart attack, but they still wanted to keep him in thehospital for a few days for tests. We spent the holidays worried about Michael’sdad and not sure what to do with ourselves. The night before we left, Michael’sdad got released from the hospital and we were able to do a day after Christmascelebration with dinner and presents. We love Michael’s dad and hope that hehas a quick recovery.

Hugs and Kisses

Christopher and June loved giving each other lots of hugs and kisses on our most recent trip to San Francisco/Modesto. It was cute to see them be sweet with each other. We've got to keep working on June being sweet with her other cousin Kendall (Leah's baby). Those two love to go at it.

Santa

Our sweet, friendly little girl is finally getting a little more common sense. She is getting a little stranger shy and it was particularly apparent with Santa. We had tried to have her meet Santa at our ward party the morning this picture was taken and she would not have it. At Michael's work party we waited in line with her cousins for a good hour and we tried again mostly for the sake of a good crying Santa picture. I started to feel a little guilty when it was our turn and I saw June's lip start to quiver in anticipation. The last picture is our third attempt with Kate being her guide. She did much better.

As a side note, when I was growing up I used to love holdingany baby I could get my hands on. I was always disappointed when the babywanted their mom again. I used to reassure myself thinking that one day I wouldbe a mom and be a baby’s favorite. As it turns out, June loves to go to otherpeople and when I reach for her she shakes her head no and laughs.

Thanksgiving 2011

It was our first Thanksgiving without our families so Michael and I decided to go big and go to the Four Seasons since no one wanted to make Thanksgiving dinner for two adults and Michael was working most of the weekend. June did great and we enjoyed walking around downtown after our meal. I flew out the next day for San Diego for Megan's baby shower.

On our visit we made sure to go to brunch at Sundance. For somereason I never went in college. What was I thinking? It was delicious and themountains were beautiful. June didn't appreciate it as much as Souplantation, but I think she had too many snacks before we got there. All she wanted to eat were the cookies.

Utah

Halloween weekend June and I went out to Utah to meet up with my mom and two of mysisters. I haven't had much of a reason to go back to Utah since there is now aCafe Rio in California and one close to where we live, but my mom thought itwould be fun to meet up for the Women in Business conference (http://marriottschool.byu.edu/conferences/wibc/)they were starting at BYU. It was the first year and it was great. I enjoyed itway more than I expected and we all left inspired by all the different lifestories. I also got to see Elise and her two girls as well as Megan'ssister-in-laws Alison and Andrea. It was fun to see how much BYU has changed. Iremember when I went to my freshman year of college I only knew a few people atthe school and it was always strange walking around campus and notknowing anyone. I was always so happy when I ran into someone I knew. By theend of my college days it was hard to not spot a familiar face when on campus.It's a good reminder since moving to Coloradoand feeling anonymous once again. We had a great time and Juneloved seeing her aunts and grandma.

New Place

We’ve been in our own place for a few weeks now and wereally love it. We are close to Washington Park or Wash Park as the locals like to say. There are tonsof other young families. We can walk to restaurants, libraries, parks, and itis really safe. We also really liked watching the leaves change. The weatherhasn’t been too bad yet, but I'm sure I will be in shock when the snow hits. June loves going on walks in her stroller now becausewe see people with their dogs on every corner. She was not much of a fan ofwalks before. It was nice to live somewhere a little more urban coming from Los Angeles. I hope thatwe get a chance to get to know Denverwell.

Michael got tickets through work to the Rockies vs Padres game. Melissa and Murray came with all their kids. Brandon loves baseball and it was fun to see his enthusiasm for the game. When we were walking out to leave we looked over at him and he had tears streaming down his face. I thought he had hurt himself, but turns out his parents had told him that they were leaving the game early.

We went to Breckenridge for the weekend to do some exploring. It was so beautiful and about 1 1/2 away from Denver. The drive was gorgeous with the leaves changing and the little town was a lot of fun. June loved all the people and dogs. June slept 13 1/2 hours the night we were there so Michael and I were able to eat pizza, watch a movie and just relax. We all had a really great time. I love ski towns in the fall/summer.

We went to Rascal Flatts Saturday night with Murray andMelissa. We had a great time. It was so very Denver of us. I have a feeling I will behearing a lot more country music now. We made it out to Denver. My mom, June, and I drove out my car together with an overnight stop in Utah. Our drive was beautiful and June did pretty well in the car. Michael is working at Comfort Dental in Highlands Ranch. We have been busy trying to figure out the areas while staying at Leah’s. June has been loving the girls as well as all their toys. We have narrowed our search down to south Denver, but there are still a lot of options to choose from. It’s a little overwhelming. Here's June enjoying pizza night with her cousins.

June has been loving Haley's old collection of beanie babies at my parents' house. We pulled down a bunch of them from the attic and June is just crazy about them. The first morning after we got them down my mom had her playing with them up in her room. My mom went to bring her down for breakfast and June cried like she had been seriously injured. June and I have been home this week with my sisters and parents. Thanks to their hipness I've made a few new discoveries. Kelsea introduced me to Instagram. Here I thought everyone had some mad photoshop skills when it was just Instagram. It's been nice because I didn't always like the way my iPhone photos turned out and the program makes them way better as displayed above.

Megan is pregnant (so exciting) and she's got me hooked on Lay Baby Lay. I am really looking forward to having some more space in our next place and hopefully a little more of a nursery.

Haley always tells me the best shopping places. She let me know where they sell one of my favorite brands in Encinitas.

Remodelaholic was one of my own discoveries. I've been loving the before and after pictures of renovations. We've been looking at houses in Co and it's nice to see the changes you can make. The results aren't always perfect, but usually a huge improvement. It's kind of like one my dad's favorite tricks of sitting in front of the mirror sticking out his stomach and then sucking it in while saying "Before. . . after. . . before. . .after."

Also, when we were in Modesto, Michael's dad, Michael, and me went and saw Crazy Stupid Love. We all loved it. It was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Besides for Michael's dad's car getting keyed in the parking lot, gotta love Modesto, it was a great night. I kind of want to see it again.

Beach Time

We went to Moonlight with my dad, Kelsea, Megan, and Evan. We met up with Beverly, Thomas, Colton, Aaron, Daniel, and Skyler. June cheered my dad and Thomas on against Skyler and Daniel in beach volleyball. June loved the attention from everyone. It was fun seeing our cousins and the guys Kelsea grew up with. They are all so grown up now. I remember looking out into our backyard one day when we were young and seeing Kelsea and Skyler laying on beach towels on plants (not the grass) looking at the sky while eating potato chips. They were funny kids.

Mary Poppins

My mom took Kelsea and me to see Mary Poppins tonight. It was a lot of fun. I loved musicals when I was a kid and I still love the music. I remember the first time I saw Seven Brides for Seven Brothers with my cousins at my grandma's house. It blew my mind. Once we had our own copy at home I pretended t0 be sick so I could miss school and practice the dance moves from the barnyard dance. Unfortunately it was a little to advanced for me and some of the moves were difficult without a partner.

I also love Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Music Man, and Oklahoma. I saw a lot of them for the first time at my grandma's house on her beta player. Bev introduced Calvin to Seven Brides for Seven Brothers recently and the only part he requests to watch on repeat is the barnyard fight. I hope these movies don't feel too dated for our kids to enjoy.

She was thrilled to ride the merry-go-round and the train. She didn't nap all day and started having a rough time when we were walking around Walnut Creek after the zoo. She decided to take her spoon from the back pocket of her stroller and use it as a gagging device. She threw up all over herself. She thinks her gagging reflex is quite hilarious.

The Raiders were staying at our hotel and somehow we got included on their training schedules (it was delivered under our door at night). We decided to forgo the offense and defense walk thru so that we could ride electric bikes all around Napa. We started out in Yountville and did a tour at Robert Mondavi and then we went to Rubicon. . . my obsession with all things Coppola continues. We then rode our electric bikes past the manual bike riders up to a picnic/view at Rutherford Hill. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed exploring on our bikes.

Greystone at CIA

After June left we enjoyed a delicious dinner at Greystone at the Culinary Institute of America. After dinner we experienced our first mud bath. The pictures turned out a little funky unfortunately. It was fun to have a date night with Rebecca and Steve. I loved the food in Napa. I want to go back and try more places.

It was my first night away from June. It went well except that Michael missed June so much that his sleepwalking kicked up again. Every time I woke up during the night he was walking around the room and when I would ask him what he was doing he told me he was watching June. I finally was able to convince him that she was with his parents and he settled down for the rest of the night.

Brix in Napa

We were able to go to Napa for a few days. We had June the first part of the trip. Janie and Murray met up with us and watched her for the last few days. We had a great time. We all went to a delicious dinner at Brix. They had a great garden where June could run around when she was sick of sitting in a high chair.

We got to go to the San Diego zoo yesterday with grandma. The highlight was seeing a baby hippo with her mom and a baby monkey in the nursery. June also enjoyed the petting zoo. We went during her afternoon nap time and she was a champ. She cashed out while we were walking out to the car.

To Live and Die in LA

It’s official . . . we no longer live in LA. Our lease ended and we moved out of our apartment. We loaded up a POD with most of our belongings and are now enjoying time with family. It was a crazy few weeks trying to get everything together to put into storage while little June tried to unpack my packing. Luckily we had lots of help from family and friends. We had to leave our POD out one night, which was a little nerve racking considering all our great luck with break-ins, but our things survived the night out on the streets.

I’ve been very sentimental about leaving LA. Despite all its shortcomings, particularly in downtown LA, I’ve really loved living here. I can’t believe it’s been over 7 years. I love big cities, I love all the people, the craziness/excitement, the food, the nooks and crannies, and I’ve really loved LA. Every day I would discover some thing new yet it also holds so many memories for me.

Growing up we would drive up to my grandpa’s house and the exit was Sunset off of the 405. Ironically when I moved to LA after graduating college I ended up living on the same street that my grandparents’ house was on near the preschool I went to. Not only that, but I found an amazing job blocks from where I lived after I moved into my apartment. Most of my life here was serendipitous like that.

So many places here hold a memory for me. It has been a really wonderful chapter in my life. Most of my good friends have left the city and all gone their different ways . .. but it’s still pretty difficult to leave. I feel so lucky to have lived here and to have so many great times. I will miss this place.

Stay Classy San Diego

We went to the San Diego fair tonight. Lots of food, fun, people, and good times. Despite not getting enough sleep, June loved every minute of it. Evan impressed us with his game skills. Once a carnie, always a carnie. He won a huge stuffed animal that June is already crazy about.

Best Day of My Life

We recently “celebrated” our 3-year anniversary. It was squeezed in between birthdays, WREBS, moving, and school. We celebrated by trying out Patina, which was delicious.

I loved our wedding day. We got married on my parents’ anniversary and I was able to wear my mom’s dress. It was a dream come true having so many friends and family all together. I was so bummed I couldn’t close out the party particularly when so many friends came from so far. I am so grateful to be married to Michael and that we have June in our family now. I am so lucky.

*I feel a little guilty saying that the day June was born wasn’t the best day of my life, but I’d be lying if I said childbirth was better than a wedding and a party. Sorry June!

June enjoyed her birthday cake. Looking at this pictures I realize my mistake in not cleaning up the green beans off of her before doing the cake, but at least she had green beans first.

I can’t believe our little girl is a year old. It has been a really fun year getting to know her. She is not big on cuddling, but she makes up for it with smiles and laughter. She has an astute/naughty sense of humor for a little baby. She laughs when getting scared rather than crying. She is mostly happy and easy to be around. She is a little bit of a flirt and a bit dramatic. She sleeps really well now and goes down for bed and naps easily (even though her first 6 months were brutal.) She likes most foods and even when she does not like some thing, she will usually still open her mouth for more. She says mama, dada, what, and Bella. She has always been more physical than interested in words, but she is starting to take more interest lately. She makes friends everywhere we go . . . I’m a little shy with strangers, but she often puts me in situations where I have to talk to strangers and they are always talking to me. She has been standing a lot more and taking a few steps, but not walking. She makes me laugh every day. She is really social and when babies are crying she gently puts her hands on them and looks at them. She loves kids, Disneyland, swings, the beach, bouncy balls, and Bella (she isn’t as excited about other dogs). She is stingy with her kisses, so when she gives you one she really means it. She usually gives them to me randomly after I’ve made her laugh. We are just crazy about her.

Last weekend Janie, Leah, Madelyn and Kendall came into town. Leah came so she could be Michael's patient for WREBs, but unfortunately Michael did not end up using her. We were happy to see them and have them visit. Madelyn loves June and spoils her with lots of attention. June eats it up. Madelyn had time with her grandma to go to Disneyland and Leah was allowed to come for a day only if she brought June. When we were at Disneyland Madelyn did not leave our side. It was so sweet.

Also, we found out this week that Michael passed his WREBs. We are so proud of him and so glad that it's done.

Car Rides

Michael and I got to go to a dinner prepared by Marcel to promote his show Quantum Kitchen. The food was amazing and we had a great time. We enjoyed talking to a couple who won a trip and flew out from Nashville. It was their first time out West and they were so sweet. It was kind of intimidating being asked by Marcel what our favorite dish was or what elements of the show we liked from the SyFy executive. Michael told me after that I blew it, but it was still a super fun night.

Weekend

We went down to SD for my Memorial day. June enjoyed the beach, parks, and lots of attention from my family. The last picture is of Grandpa's latest ride. It was June's first time at the beach and she really enjoyed it. I can't wait to take her more.

Disneyland

We have been making a few trips to Disneyland and June has been loving it. We went the last few times with Whitney and her boys. It has been lots of fun. June's favorite ride is definitely It's a Small World, but she enjoys all the rides we've been on. She doesn't cry or get scared. She always crashes on the way home.

Haley came up to LA to visit us since she is back from NYC for a little while. June missed her so much that she cuddled with her for a little while . . . it also helped that a Baby Einstein dvd was playing. It was so sweet. When Haley went to leave June didn't want to let go of her.

Moving

Anne is moving and we are so sad. We got our kids all together one last time before Anne moves. June got so excited when she saw everyone. It was the perfect storm having two best friends from college live so close and all having young kids. We feel so lucky we were able to go to the pool, museums, gardens, out to lunch, and all the other fun activities moms with young kids get to do. I couldn't ask for a better way to top off 7 great years in L.A.

Huntington Gardens

We visited the Huntington Gardens with Lo, Anne, and the kids. We actually ended up leaving early so we could go to Disneyland with Michael right after since it was one of the only days he could go. It was a fun day for us.

Fancy Nancy

Michael went golfing all day Saturday so we went to the LA Times Book Festival. Here is June waiting in line for the illustrator of Fancy Nancy to sign her copy. Since June and I are both feeling better after numerous colds we have been getting out and about. On Friday we went to the sample sale with Anne and Lucy and yesterday we went to Disneyland with my mom. June loved Pirates this time and the Tikki room.

Easter

Zoo Day

We went to the zoo with Lo and her boys today. June only noticed the large animals like the jaguar and giraffe, but it was fun to have her go to the zoo for the first time. Warren's questions and commentary also kept things interesting.

Emma's Wedding

June and I went to visit my family for my cousin Emma's wedding. The only cousin missing from my dad's side was Haley. I wish we got a picture of everyone! It was fun to see everyone.

June has turned into quite the little flirt with men. When a guy looks at her she likes to be all coy and hide her head on whoever is holding her. She only does it with men though. I'm glad we got two pictures of June flirting with her Uncle Evan.

Megan and Evan's Housewarming Party

Megan and Evan had a fun housewarming party back in February. It was fun meeting some of their new friends and seeing some of their old friends. I am still dreaming about the delicious cake bites Kelsea made. I closed out the party. It had been a long time since I got to go out with out June.

I blew it on the pictures this weekend, but Megan and Evan came up for Evan's "vacation." We watched lots of movies, met some pageant queens, went to breakfast at the Griddle, stopped by the Grove, and played games. My favorite line from the weekend was when we were driving home from the Grove and Michael and Evan were in the backseat with June looking at the sexual predator app on their iPhones while looking up addresses for family members. We overheard Michael tell Evan that he was glad they shared the same interests. I'm getting a little sad there will not be too many more LA weekends with family.

Pool with Friends

We went to the pool today. It was Vincent and Kaden's first swim. The kids had a great time.

Fire Station

We toured the local fire station in our area. The kids were surprisingly a little freaked out. It was pretty funny to see their reactions. June loved all the attention the kids gave her. Sweet Yara (a 5-year old) told her mom she wanted to have June over for a playdate. After the fire station we spent the afternoon with Kelsea since she came up to visit.

Amanda's Shower

I got to sneak away for an afternoon while Michael watched June so I could go to Amanda's shower. She is marrying my second cousin Chris. It was so fun. I am so excited for them.

More Church Outfits

Dressing June up for church never seems to get old for me. Maybe I should put them all into one post. June slept through part of church for the first time since she was a really little baby. It was amazing.

Family Visit

My parents and Megan came to visit. We went to the Griffith Park and Observatory. It was fun hearing about all my dad's fun memories there when growing up. June loved the merry go round. It was fast. I had to really try to keep my balance holding her up. It was a fun day.

Pool Time

June has been loving the pool. She tries to wiggle out of my arms so she can be on her own. I need to get a little floaty suit for her.

Morning Swim

We went for a morning swim this week since they are now heating our pool. I have a feeling we might become regulars there.

We also went to the doctor last week and June measured in the 25th percentile for height and weight, but 95th percentile for her head circumference. Michael keeps telling me her big head comes from my family.

Night and Day

I had a fun day with Lo and Anne yesterday. We went to the Science Center with the kids during the day, which was a really cool museum. June loved the fish tanks as well as her buddies. As soon as I got her out of her car seat and she saw Lucy, Warren, and Vincent she started kicking her legs and squealing.

In the evening we went to the premiere for Red Riding Hood and Martha came as well. The last picture has to be one of the worst pictures I have ever taken. . . so I cut myself out. Anne and Lo were cat calling to the oh-so-famous actor, Adrian Holmes, right before we took the picture and he was loving it. I am trying to hold in my laughter. My favorite part of the night was when we were walking out and some of the fans told us to move over because "they were trying to see people." Anne quickly replied "What are we? Chop liver."

Los Angeles Marathon

This was the view from our apartment during the LA marathon. We decided it was a little more fun this year because we were already awake with little June. It starts at Dodger stadium and ends in Santa Monica.

Colorado Cousins

June had lots of fans in Colorado. I think Madeline and Grant were her #1 fans though. They loved following her around and predicting what she liked and did not like. One night we showed Grant the video monitor of June and he thought it was so cute he said "I wish I could take that with me to bed and come get you when she wakes up." Sounds good to me!

All the cousins loved it when June would "clean" their glasses by licking them. They were all so cute with her and June loved all the attention.
